Gow collection
This collection is a selection from two albums owned by Doug Gow. It appears the person who took the photos was a crewman on the D Class cruisers HMS Diomede and HMS Dunedin and when off duty a crewed on various boats. The photos date to between 1928 and 1931.
Unfortunately we don't know who this seaman was, though he may have been in the Wellington Division of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, and present at the putting down of the Mau movement in Samoa in 1928. In 1931 the Diomede and Dunedin were sent to Napier to lend support and organisational duties in the aftermath of the earthquake there.
Most of the photos are captioned, and are reproduced as they are written in the album.
