Ballinger collection

This is a selection of photographs taken by Frank Ballinger during the late 1930s and early 1940s. Frank Joined the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club in 1938 and remained a member until his death in the early 2000s.

He started our with the X Class June, then quickly moved on to the hard-chined 14 footer Eileen. He began renting shed 16 in Clyde Quay in the late 1930s.

His son Trevor Ballinger, who made these photos available to us, still rents the shed.

The captions beneath each picture in bold are Franks, written on the reverse of the image. Other captions are ours.

Ranui 1938 | Podge |Boat harbour before the Clubhouse Eileen.  This boat appears to be an Idle Along, not a 14 footer, and likely to be Ranui, not Eileen. The note on the photo looks to have been corrected by Frank.
